Aquantia Quenches Multi-Gig Demand with AQcite

February 02, 2017

Aquantia is firmly entrenched as a cut above the rest in delivering multi-gigabit Ethernet. The firm exhibits market leadership via its numerous industry firsts, influence (NBASE-T Alliance) and constant innovation. With networking experiencing the challenges of the SaaS era, from campus to campus, enterprise to enterprise, multi-gigabit Ethernet is more important today than ever.

This week, Aquantia further cemented its industry leadership with the announcement of the industry’s first programmable FPGA-programmable multi-gigabit Ethernet PHY device. The AQcite suite of programmable multi-gigabit Ethernet Physical Layer (PHY) devices integrates Aquantia’s AQrate BASE-T PHY with a Xilinx Kintex -7 FPGA, and is aimed at supporting Audio-Visual (AV) over Ethernet, machine vision, data center, 5G wireless, enterprise as well as metro and industrial environments.

“As Multi-Gigabit penetrates further in the market, customers want to develop their own system solutions while riding the network speed upgrade and ubiquity of standard Ethernet,” noted Amir Bar-Niv, VP Marketing at Aquantia. “Combining a Xilinx FPGA with our best-in-breed AQrate technology has allowed us to deliver a unique product that we believe will unleash a vast number of applications.”

Ethernet plays a vital role in the creation and testing of applications, and in an effort to stay ahead of the curve comes AQuantia AQcite as a means to deliver the expected performance with minimum cost and footprint for customers. The first product unveiled, the AQLX107 empowers customers to develop their own protocol converter, data multiplexing, bridge/controller or adaption layer functionality utilizing standard Ethernet protocol.

“Our collaboration with Aquantia underscores Xilinx’s commitment to enable and accelerate the integration of high speed video interfaces with our state-of-the-art programmable devices that increase our customer’s ability to innovate, differentiate, and accelerate time to market of video over IP products,” noted Ramesh Iyer, Director of Pro AV and Broadcast Products at Xilinx. “With Ethernet being the most ubiquitous and well accepted networking protocol in the industry, Aquantia’s AQLX107 integrates advanced 5-speed Ethernet PHY with one of the most advanced FPGAs in the market.”

The digital era is introducing new obstacles to overcome, however, with the growing shift toward multi-gigabit Ethernet and network modernization the challenges are greatly reduced, and it can be back to business as usual – working on boosting the bottom line.
