Multi-gigabit Ethernet Week in Review: Aquantia, Cisco, Apple & More

March 11, 2017

Enterprise and campus networking is moving in a distinctly multi-gigabit direction. Digital transformation is driving change in the network, with modernization and multi-gigabit Ethernet front and center. The cloud era creates a high performance bar. And, with the weekend upon us, there’s no better time than the present to take a look at the week that was in multi-gigabit Ethernet: Time for the Week in the Review!

Aquantia led the news this week with the addition of its newest distribution partner Arrow Electronics. The agreement puts Aquantia’s high-speed Ethernet connectivity solutions in Arrow’s hands, in addition to mid-market resellers and the enterprise. Murdoch Fitzgerald, vice president of supplier marketing at Arrow, exclaimed, “Arrow looks forward to collaborating with Aquantia to integrate its advanced connectivity solutions into cutting-edge product designs and enterprise infrastructure, and to support the company's continued growth and market expansion.” Everything you need to know is HERE.

Education is embracing the use of technology in the classroom. Frequently, video content is streamed for class consumption, from guest lectures to tutorials and beyond, and at times standard IP isn’t enough to support the demand. This week, TMC’s Tracey Schelmetic delved into the delivery of AV over IP video technology in the classroom HERE.

In any network, security must be front of mind. This week, Cisco warned of vulnerability in NetFlow. According to Cisco, there is an issue with the Stream Control Transmission Protocol (SCTP) decoder of the NetFlow Generation Appliance (NGA) that could result in an attacker gaining access remotely. “An exploit could allow the attacker to cause the appliance to become unresponsive or reload, causing a DoS condition,” a Cisco blog explained. All of the details are HERE.

Ethernet connectivity is not new to Apple devices, however, user control of their Ethernet experience has long been lacking. In iOS 10.2, the Cupertino-based company added improved connectivity controls with Ethernet and the overall user experience as a focus. Find the full report HERE.

Remember to stop by early and often for all things multi-gig Ethernet. See you next week!
