Abaco Introduces New GigE Switch
The new Abaco Systems gigabit Ethernet switch may be fast, but saying its name is not. This new solution, unveiled this week, is called the NETernity SWE440 3U VPX 10/40.
It enables a range of components, including digital signal processors, graphics cards, sensor I/O cards, single board computers, and other gear to pass data at multi-gigabit speeds. And it's a good solution for such applications as electronic warfare, radar/sonar, situational awareness, and surveillance.
The NETernity SWE440 3U VPX 10/40 employs system on a chip technology. It can have up to eight 40 gigabit Ethernet ports, up to 32 10 gigabit Ethernet ports, or combinations of the two. And its optional front panel ports can be helpful for people in lab environments who are working on qualification.
This gigabit Ethernet switch is compact. It only requires 40 watts or less of power. And it’s available in five air-cooled and rugged conduction-cooled packages.
Abaco’s OpenWare switch management software provides users of the NETernity SWE440 3U VPX 10/40 with the ability to customize the switch. This software also offers security features such as denial of service attack prevention. And it has user password mechanisms with multiple levels of security and military level authorization schemes.
“Our customers face a challenge to deploy very high performance computing in platforms with limited space and power,” said Mrinal Iyengar, vice president of product management at Abaco Systems. “The SWE440 will enable such deployments, allowing Abaco to deliver big iron compute performance in the compact 3U form factor. The combination of very high throughput with minimal latency, flexible management software and advanced security uniquely position the SWE440 to provide connectivity for advanced rugged systems.”
This is just one of the new products Abaco Systems unveiled this month. Earlier in May, the company came out with the GVC1000 graphics and vision system. This is an embedded solution suitable for a range of commercial and military applications.
The GVC10000 can be used for 360-degree situational awareness, advanced digital mapping, data-intensive intelligence, embedded training, reconnaissance applications (including IED detection, hyperspectral sensor fusion, synthetic aperture radar processing, and wide area persistent surveillance), and vision computing applications.
