New Partnership Far More Than a 'Cameo' for Aquantia

June 02, 2017

Go big or go home, that’s what I say! This type of gusto is required in today’s multi-gigabit world. While some companies struggle with the notion of network modernization, they fail to realize the necessity. From the enterprise down to the SMB, multi-gigabit Ethernet is required to support the ever expanding network requirements of our digital age. A firm taking this message to heart is founding NBASE-T Alliance member, Aquantia, as the news is fast and furious with this enabler of high-speed Ethernet.

Earlier in the week, we learned of Aquantia’s expanded presence in the Asian market and a kickass multi gigabit gaming solution. Now, the multi-gigabit Ethernet pioneer is positioning for a run on the small office Home office (SoHo) and Small and Midsized Business (SMB) markets as a result of a partnership with Cameo.

JuAn Tseng, General Manager of Cameo Communications Inc., exclaimed, “The Aquantia Cameo switch platform is going to give SoHo and SMB users another important building block to create the Multi-Gig networks which enhances entertainment, creativity and productivity. We are pleased to partner with Aquantia on this new platform.”

The duo developed switch platform to target these two market segments with its newly announced switch platform. The multi-gigabit Ethernet ecosystem is growing, and while the enterprise is ripe, smaller businesses require network modernization as well.

Kamal Dalmia, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Aquantia Corp., explained, “Previously, Multi-Gig Ethernet has only been accessible for Enterprise networks. Cameo is broadening the adoption of Multi-Gig by enabling OEMs to deliver a variety of switch options for performance users in the SMB/SoHo space. We are pleased to collaborate with Cameo to accelerate the Multi-Gig adoption in our industry.”

The switches were developed with options in mind, meaning they offer OEMS flexibility of selecting 4, 5 or 8 multi-gigabit configurations, with the additional options of 2.5G, 5G or 10G Ethernet speed support. A point of note – the switches can support lesser speeds, and in terms of port count can be scaled if needed.

“With the recent introduction of Multi-Gig Network Interface Cards (NICs) and motherboard products for the PC market, Aquantia created a demand for simple, cost-effective, yet faster switches as we deal with ever increasing system requirements to move large amounts of data,” Tseng noted.

The Aquantia Cameo switch will be showcased at Computex in the Aquantia meeting room. If you have questions or general curiosities about making the move to multi-gigabit Ethernet, this would be a starting point for your query.
