NETGEAR's New Wi-Fi Router Speaks Volumes

June 23, 2017

The new Nighthawk Wi-Fi router from NETGEAR is faster, more powerful, and higher performing than its predecessors. It’s ideally suited for gaming, mobile devices, and streaming. And you can even talk to it.

The new solution is called the X6S AC4000 Tri-Band Gigabit WiFi Router. It delivers speeds of up to 4 gigabits per second. It supports multi-user MIMO for improved performance. And it can be controlled using voice commands via Amazon Alexa.

It has a 64-bit 1.8GHz dual core processor and three offload processors. Its SmartConnect feature selects the fastest Wi-Fi band every device. And, like NETGEAR’s other products in this category, it features NETGEAR genie remote access, ReadyCLOUD, and OpenVPN.

"We continually add new technical capabilities to our products and the Nighthawk X6 is no exception," said Sandeep Harpalani, senior director of product marketing for NETGEAR Connected Home. "The new Nighthawk X6S not only supports the features of its award-winning predecessor, but has new capabilities already standard in several other routers from the industry-leading Nighthawk family, such as MU-MIMO, port aggregation, and ReadyCLOUD USB access.”

The X6S AC4000 Tri-Band Gigabit WiFi Router available starting this month from major retailers. It is list priced for $299.99.

Iconic Displays  says    75 percent of people believe a week without Wi-Fi would make them grumpier than one week without coffee.  Hotel Chatter says 38 percent of people say no Wi-Fi at a hotel is a deal  breaker.

According to the Wi-Fi Alliance, more than 9 billion Wi-Fi-enabled devices       will be in use the end of this year and more than 3 billion will be shipped  in 2017. And, the alliance says that 71 percent of all mobile communications flows over Wi-Fi.

Meanwhile, the latest Cisco Visual Networking Index indicates that traffic from wireless and mobile devices will account for more than 63 percent of total IP traffic by 2021. And, globally, Cisco’s VNI reports, total public Wi-Fi hotspots will grow seven fold from 2015 to 2020 from 6 4.2 million in 2015 to 432.5 million by 2020.
