Multi-gigabit Ethernet Week in Review: Pulse, Comcast Business, Vertical Systems & More

August 26, 2017

Network requirements are growing at a rapid rate. Thanks to a growing IoT presence, our SaaSy reality and digital transformation (in general), more is demanded of networks than ever before. This is driving a movement toward network modernization and multi-gigabit Ethernet. And, with the weekend upon us, there’s no better time than the present to take a look back at the week that was in multi-gigabit Ethernet news: Time for the Week in Review!

Leading off the news this week, Pulse unveiled its 10GBASE-T Ethernet Connector Modules. “Although there is a lot of excitement around 25GbE, 50GbE and 100GbE, and justifiably so,” Seamus Crehan, president of Crehan Research, noted “many enterprise data centers are still using 1GbE for server networking attach. A lot of these customers will likely see 10GbE, and especially 10GBASE-T, as their next network upgrade path.” All the details are HERE.

Recently, Comcast Business unveiled DOCSIS 3.1-based service for Mid-Atlantic and Northeastern business customers. This includes: Charlottesville, VA; Baltimore, MD; Washington D.C.; northern Delaware; New Jersey; Greater Philadelphia and Greater Boston. “Comcast is building the nation’s largest gig-speed network. We have been at the forefront of DOCSIS 3.1 deployment and today’s roll out further demonstrates our commitment to bringing this transformational technology to all businesses in our footprint,” explained Kevin O’Toole, senior vice president of Product Management at Comcast Business. Complete coverage is HERE.

Vertical Systems Group unveiled its Mid-Year 2017 Carrier Ethernet LEADERBOARD, with some interesting results. “While the pace of growth has slowed from the market ramp years, demand for Carrier Ethernet services remains very strong in 2017,” said Rick Malone, principal at Vertical Systems Group. “The revenue and profitability outlooks for many providers are improving as fiber buildouts are completed and pricing begins to stabilize.” Insight and analysis is HERE.

Level 3 unveiled the Level 3 Cloud Connect Solutions feature this week, a scalable Ethernet offering that provides users with the ability to host a number of VLANs on one Ethernet Virtual Circuit (EVC) from their data centers to Amazon Web Services (AWS) leveraging the AWS Direct Connect service. Paul Savill, SVP of Core Products for Level 3 noted, "Enterprises today are looking for any advantage to stay competitive in our digitally transformed world. Level 3 Cloud Connect Solutions is the next evolution in making the network experience like the cloud experience to put greater power and agility in customers' hands." Everything you need to know is HERE.

Remember to stop by early and often for all things multi-gigabit Ethernet. See you next week!
