Multi-gigabit Ethernet Week in Review: NBASE-T, Windstream, Transition Networks & More

September 16, 2017

Network requirements are growing at a rapid rate. Thanks to a growing IoT presence, our SaaSy reality and digital transformation (in general), more is demanded of networks than ever before. This is driving a movement toward network modernization and multi-gigabit Ethernet. And, with the weekend upon us, there’s no better time than the present to take a look back at the week that was in multi-gigabit Ethernet news: Time for the Week in Review!

In multi-gigabit Ethernet there is an argument to be made for NBASE-T adoption. For years, the go-to was 1000BASE-T, but its time has come and gone. Change is upon us, as the standardization of NBASE-T last fall is driving adoption. TMC’s Paula Bernier delves deeply into the matter HERE.

Recently, Vertical Systems Group unveiled its mid-year Carrier Ethernet LEADERBOARD. Standing out as a firm on the move, Windstream was rewarded for much of improvements effort, as for the third straight year the Carrier Ethernet provider climbed the rankings. “We are continuing to see growing demand for Ethernet services, particularly in areas where Windstream is targeting its strategic solutions,” said Rick Malone, principal of Vertical Systems Group. “Windstream’s investments in their local and national fiber networks have resulted in positive market share growth as reflected in our Mid-Year 2017 Carrier Ethernet LEADERBOARD rankings.” Complete coverage is HERE.

Also in the news this week, ATIS and MEF introduced Ethernet specs. “This new joint specification transforms the Ethernet ordering process globally, thus enabling faster delivery of interconnected networks,” said ATIS President and CEO Susan Miller. “It makes the ordering process easier for customers while also advancing service provider business imperatives in this area.” Find all the details HERE.

Transition Networks announced an expansion to its family of multi-port gigabit Ethernet PoE+ media converters. The additions include the Transition Networks 10/100/1000 Ethernet small form factor pluggable media converters with Power over Ethernet Plus. Everything you need to know is HERE.

Remember to stop by early and often for all things multi-gigabit Ethernet. See you next week!
