Broadcom, Eidetic Partner on NVMe-oF over TCP/IP
Broadcom Ltd. and Eidetic Communications Inc. this week announced they are collaborating on NVMe over Fabrics with TCP/IP transport.

The combination of Eideticom NoLoad FPGA and Broadcom BCM58800 provides a compelling solution for acceleration of storage and other compute intensive workloads in enterprise data centers and the cloud.”
The partners say their joint solution optimizes power consumption and throughput for scale-out storage applications. And that allows for more cost-efficent solutions, they add.
“This will allow data center operators to take advantage of composable/disaggregated storage to address large, data-intensive workloads for advanced applications, including high performance computing and deep learning,” they explained.
NVMe-oF stands for Non-Volatile Memory Express over Fabrics. This standard enables data centers to access flash and solid-state drives over Ethernet and Fibre Channel networks. That allows them to run applications using a much larger storage pool than is possible with NVMe alone. This new standard builds on NMVe, which provides a low-latency, simplified, and standardized way to connect PCIe SSDs and use them in flash memory applications.
As for Eideticom, it’s a company that develops storage, compute, and application acceleration products targeting programmable platforms on the cloud or at the network edge.
Broadcom is a semiconductor company, which Avago Technologies acquired in 2016. Broadcom recently made a hostile bid in an attempt to buy Qualcomm, which continues to push back against the offer. And in mid November Broadcom completed the acquisition of Brocade Communications Systems, which just previous to that sold its data center switching, routing, and analytics business to Extreme Networks.
